CSA ADVOCATES FOR ENHANCED PROTECTION OF HEALTH SECTOR DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has called on IT Managers and Administrators of health facilities to prioritise the protection of sensitive patient data by securing digital infrastructure.
Speaking at a recent workshop organised by the Ministry of Health (MOH), at Cape Coast in the Central Region, officials from the CSA emphasised that the health sector is designated as a Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), therefore health sector leaders must comply with the CII Directive by the CSA to ensure it is protected.
The presentations by the CSA officers detailed the prevalent cybersecurity threats facing the health sector, including ransomware attacks, data breaches, and the need for proactive measures to protect against these evolving threats.
The Authority urged health managers to be vigilant and proactive in securing their digital infrastructure through regular software updates, license renewals, and other maintenance activities.
Additionally, an overview of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) was provided, highlighting the legal requirements for securing critical digital infrastructure within the health sector. The functions and development of the National CERT were also discussed, emphasising its role in coordinating responses to cyber incidents and providing technical support to health facilities.
The workshop concluded with a strong call to action for health sector managers to prioritise cybersecurity alongside healthcare delivery, by investing in robust digital infrastructure protection, and health facilities to ensure the continuity of critical health services and the protection of clients’ data.
