CSA ENHANCES ONLINE SAFETY FOR YOUNG WOMEN
In a bid to strengthen online privacy and safety among young women, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) recently held a two-day workshop for CAMFED Alumnae (CAMA) in Kumasi.
The workshop was organised in response to a formal request from CAMFED Ghana's Executive Director, Mr. Fairuza Abdul-Rashid Safian which brought together 111 CAMA members and CAMFED staff from across eight regions of Ghana, providing them with critical skills to protect themselves from online threats.
The training, led by Ms. Mary Ama Bawa and Mr. Nelson Herald Darko, officials of the CSA, focused on the importance of child online protection, general cyber hygiene, and effective online privacy strategies.
It also highlighted statistics on social media usage in Ghana, revealing the widespread daily interaction with technology and the associated risks with practical online safety measures, including password hygiene and the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), which outlines provisions for safe online practices.
A post-workshop survey assessed the participants' newly acquired knowledge, and a hands-on session allowed them to practice their skills in real-world scenarios.
The event provided a platform for participants to share their individual experiences, including concerns about sextortion, romance scams, and cyberbullying with the facilitators responding with advice on maintaining a positive online reputation and stressed the legal consequences of sharing intimate content online.
The collaboration between the CSA and CAMFED has proven to be a valuable step toward advancing cybersecurity awareness, and both organisations have committed to continue fostering such partnerships to ensure safer online environments for young women across Ghana.
