CSA Equips Over 1,000 School Children with Online Safety Skills

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA), on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, with the Gender Studies & Human Rights Documentation Centre (GSHRDC) and Child Online Africa, went to sensitise some students in the La-Nkwantanang-Madina constituency on the dangers of Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA).

The awareness sessions held under the Gender Studies & Human Rights Documentation Centre (GSHRDC) KASA Project, equipped over 1,000 basic and high school students from the Madina SDA and Queen of Peace Catholic School, on how to guard themselves against online predators.

An officer from the Capacity Building and Awareness Creation Unit of the CSA, Madam Mary Ama Bawa, warned that predators actively monitor children's social media profiles and use them to build trust before blackmailing victims with private information. “We're witnessing predators on TikTok and Instagram luring children. Protect your private information and call 292 if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe”, she stated.

An officer with the Child Online Protection (COP) Unit, Madam Jael Amponsah Bempah, equipped the students with some practical safety tools. She introduced the "Before you click, be SMART" acronym and explored some of the tactics predators use to identify, groom, and lure victims.

She further advised the students to report all suspicious online activities to the Cyber Security Authority by calling or texting 292.

The team from GSHRDC and Child Online Africa also shared some sexual harassment tactics and online scams. They detailed critical data to protect such as home addresses, private photos, and passwords, and cautioned against accepting gifts from online strangers.
