CSA Hosts STU for Cybersecurity Education Tour
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) welcomed 60 students and lecturers from Sunyani Technical University (STU) for an educational tour focused on cybercrime prevention, digital resilience, and online safety.
The programme provided participants with firsthand insight into Ghana's cybersecurity governance framework and the critical role the Authority plays in protecting the country's digital ecosystem. Students engaged with experts from the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-GH), Law Enforcement Liaison Unit, Critical Information Infrastructure Protection, Legal and Compliance, Capacity Building and Awareness Creation, and Child Online Protection units.
Addressing the participants, Ms. Mercy Araba Kertson, Director of Administration at the Cyber Security Authority, encouraged students to take a keen interest in cybersecurity and familiarise themselves with the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), stressing the importance of cybersecurity in this technology age.
Officials educated participants on emerging cyber threats, cybercrime reporting mechanisms, critical information infrastructure protection, and child online safety, while highlighting career opportunities within the cybersecurity sector. Students were encouraged to acquire professional certifications and practical skills to meet the growing demand for cybersecurity expertise.
Beyond the lectures, students were exposed to the practical realities of cybersecurity governance through engagements with officials responsible for cyber incident response, cybercrime investigations, critical information infrastructure protection, regulatory compliance, public awareness, and child online safety. The interaction provided participants with a rare opportunity to understand how national institutions work together to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats while safeguarding citizens and critical sectors of the economy.
The engagement comes at a time when Ghana continues to strengthen its cybersecurity framework amid rising incidents of online fraud, cyberbullying, identity theft, online blackmail, and other cyber-enabled crimes.
