CSA trains Police Investigators in Digital Records Analysis to Strengthen Investigations

Thirty (30) police investigators from the Legon, Airport and East Legon Districts in the Greater Accra Region have undergone practical training in Call Detail Records (CDR) and Mobile Money records analysis to enhance their ability to use digital information in criminal investigations.

The hands-on session, facilitated by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), was held on September 10, 2026, in the conference room of the Legon Police Station in Accra.

The event formed part of efforts to strengthen the investigative capacity of law enforcement personnel in analysing digital records to support criminal investigations and prosecutions. It was also an opportunity to improve collaboration between investigators who rely on telecommunications and financial transaction records.

Col. Elikem Fiamavle, Head of the Law Enforcement Liaison Unit at the CSA, and C/Supt. Charles Kwakye, Legon District Commander, in their remarks highlighted the importance of collaboration between relevant stakeholders and the need to continuously equip investigators with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively utilise digital information in modern investigations.

Mr. Theophilus Botchway and DSP Fuseini Yakubu Esq., both of the CSA, led the training, exposing participants to practical techniques for examining communication and transaction records. The session also provided a platform for the investigators to discuss operational challenges and identify areas where further technical capacity building may be required.

During the CDR component, participants were guided through the interpretation of key fields in call records, including calling and called numbers, dates and times of communication, frequently contacted numbers, IMEI and IMSI information, cell site details and the development of investigative timelines.

There was a Mobile Money records analysis session focused on how transaction data can support investigations. Participants examined how to identify senders and recipients, trace the movement of funds, assess transaction dates and times, identify patterns, and link transactions to persons or accounts.
