TRANSFER ACQUIRED CYBERSECURITY KNOWLEDGE – ALEX OPPONG TO TEACHERS
The Lead for Capacity Building and Awareness Creation (CBAC) of the Cyber Security Authority, Mr. Alex Oppong has called on teacher-mentors of the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), to transfer cybersecurity knowledge to their mentees.
He said this during an awareness creation session for CAMFED teacher mentors from the Southern Sector of Ghana in Accra on Friday, March 11, 2022. The teacher-mentors were trained on basic cybersecurity tips which they could teach their students in the basic schools.
According to Mr. Oppong, social media usage in Ghana is on the increase and that these media and other internet platforms are prone to cyber threats and attacks. To mitigate these, awareness creation, he said, is crucial to help adults and especially children to have safe online experiences.
Mr. Oppong also educated the teachers on some sections of the Cybersecurity Act 2020 (Act 1038) which included sections 62-66 which seek to criminalize child online abuses. He further urged the teachers to contact the Cyber Security Authority through the Cybersecurity/Cybercrime Incident Reporting Points of Contact to report cases and to seek advice on issues that relate to them and their students.
The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) is a pan-African movement aimed at transforming how girls’ education. CAMFED works to solve long-term health, economic and social issues in rural Africa by educating girls band investing in their economic independence and leadership once they graduate.
A total of 31 participants from the southern sector of the country, being the Central, Greater and Western Regions, attended the programme. The teacher-mentors of the CAMFED southern sector mentor over 3,000 young female students in pre-tertiary institutions in the aforementioned regions.
