URSULA OWUSU INAUGURATES PIONEER MEMBERS OF THE JOINT CYBERSECURITY COMMITTEE (JCC)

At a brief event in Accra, on Thursday, July 14, 2022, the Minister indicated that the appointment and inauguration of the members of the Joint Cybersecurity Committee (JCC) is a significant milestone in Ghana’s cybersecurity development.

Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful indicated further that, the JCC is important “to facilitate prompt response to and resolution of incidents which impact on the security of digital applications, services and infrastructure as we increasingly digitise our operations across all socio-economic activities” the minister said.

She further stated that cybersecurity is multi-sectoral and demands a multi-sectoral approach to tackle the issues, “collaboration among different stakeholders and public and private sector collaboration is absolutely critical”.

She congratulated the members of the JCC for their appointment as the pioneer members of the committee and urged them to familiarise themselves with their enabling legislation

In order to achieve a secure and resilient digital economy, Hon. Ursula Owusu urged each and everyone to play their part believing that the experiences and expertise, individually and collectively, of the members of the JCC will be very instrumental in the fight against cybercrime and help improve Ghana’s cybersecurity profile. She made the statement while emphasizing that, “we cannot sustain our digitalisation efforts without cybersecurity. Cyber-attacks could undermine our gains in digitalisation as well as our social and economic well-being and consequently, impact on our national security.

The Joint Cybersecurity Committee has been set up pursuant to Section 13 of the Cybersecurity Act 2020 (Act 1038) to collaborate with the Authority and the sectors or institutions represented on the Committee or beyond, for the implementation of relevant cybersecurity measures.
