ST. PETER’S SHS WINS 2024 NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY CHALLENGE
In a thrilling contest at the 2024 edition of the National Cyber Security Challenge (NCC) held in Accra, St. Peters Senior High School (SHS) emerged champions with an impressive score of 76 points.
Seventy (70) Senior High Schools across the sixteen (16) regions of Ghana were selected to participate in this year’s competition, which was launched earlier in 2024, by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA). The schools were categorised into zones, which were the Northern, Middle, Eastern, and Southern zones to compete and qualify for the national contest.
As the winning school, St. Peter’s SHS received a cash prize of GH¢7,000. Achimota School, which scored 65 points to secure second place, was awarded GH¢5,000, while Wa Senior High School placed third with 54 points, taking home GH¢3,000. Sewaa Kese SHS finished fourth with 38 points and received GH¢2,000. All finalists were also presented with laptops, certificates, and medals.
The NCC is a government initiative spearheaded by the CSA since 2022 to promote cyber safety and awareness among senior high school students, by providing them with hands-on experiences in identifying, preventing, and mitigating cyber threats.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of the CSA, Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako noted that the process to establish a National Steering Committee for the National Cybersecurity Challenge was underway. He explained that the committee would provide strategic direction to the initiative, ensuring a more inclusive and structured selection process for participating schools.
The 2024 NCC final was attended by dignitaries including the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Samira Bawumia; the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful; and the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana Ms. Berenice Owen-Jones.
