WOMEN IN CYBERSECURITY INAUGURATED IN ACCRA
The official launch of Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) West Africa, an affiliate of Women in Cybersecurity Global took place in Accra on March 5th, 2022
In a keynote speech read on her behalf, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Hon. Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, said the need for cybersecurity all over the world cannot be overemphasized. She therefore trusted that the women in Cybersecurity Initiative will gain for the subject, much more attention to attract more women to do degrees and professional programmes in the cyberspace; to help address cybersecurity issues which have become socio-economic and national security issues.
She lauded the efforts to promote cybersecurity among women and assured the association of the needed support from her, the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).
The Honourable Minister further urged the members of WiCyS, West Africa to create a platform for those who have made their mark in the area of cybersecurity to share their experiences and perspectives. She advised them to encourage young girls and women to take advantage of the current trend of digitalisation to develop careers in technology and cybersecurity.
Addressing the gathering, the President of WiCyS West Africa, Mrs. Olayinka Naa Dzama Wilson-Kofi said WiCyS is working to improve diversity and pipeline in the cybersecurity workforce through numerous initiatives, together with strategic partners and an army of volunteers.
The Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) West Africa is an affiliate of Women in Cybersecurity Global, a global community which helps to build a strong cybersecurity workforce with gender equality by facilitating recruitment, mentorship, career guidance, retention, and advancement for women in the cybersecurity space.
